SCAMMER JAILED
Malcolm Dow, of Heol Towy, Caldicot was one of seven men jailed for their involvement in a mortgage fraud. He was jailed for five and a half years after being found guilty of conspiracy to defraud.

OBJECTIONS TO HOUSING PLAN
Some residents raised concerns over a proposed housing development in Elm Road, Caldicot. Monmouthshire Housing Association applied for planning permission to demolish 30 garages and build four one-bedroom bungalows. No new garages would be built on the site but existing users would be offered garages elsewhere in the town.

SCHOOLS WARNED
Caldicot Comprehensive School and Dewstow School were told by Monmouthshire County Council that their maintenance budgets would be cut by half for the next five years since, as new build schools, many repairs would be covered by warranties.

HOUSE PRICE WATCH
The cheapest property advertised on www.rightmove.co.uk for sale in Caldicot at the end of March 2018 was, as in January, a one bedroom ground floor flat in Grove Gardens, Church Road, at £123,500. The cheapest house was a three bedroom semi-detached house in Park Road at £229,950. The most expensive was, as in January and February, Llanthony Secunda Manor in Church Road, an 800 year old former manor house with five bedrooms. Offers in excess of £800,000.
