BANK TO CLOSE
Barclays bank announced that it would be closing its branch in Caldicot. The branch, which opened in Caldicot in 1919, had been suffering from declining usage for some time. The move follows the closure of the HSBC branch in June 2016. Customers were advised that in future their nearest branch would be at Chepstow and that banking services would be available through the local post office.

BRIDGE TOLL CUT BRINGS HOUSING BOOM
Local estate agents reported that houses in Caldicot were selling rapidly following the announcement that tolls on the Severn Bridge would be abolished at the end of 2018 as buyers from the Bristol area sought to take advantage of the lower prices in Wales.

PUB CONVERSION NEARS COMPLETION
The conversion of the Tippling Philosopher pub into two houses reached its final stages. The pub had been converted into two houses while revised plans provided for an outbuilding to be converted into a further house and two new houses to be built in the former car park area.

HOUSE PRICE WATCH
The cheapest property advertised on www.rightmove.co.uk for sale in Caldicot at the end of August 2017 was a one bedroom ground floor flat in Grove Gardens at £79,950. The cheapest house was a three bedroom semi-detached in Shelley Close, at £190,000. The most expensive was a four bedroom detached house in Elan Way at £325,000.
