ELECTION CHANGES FOR CALDICOT
Under proposals made by the Boundary Commission, Caldicot would no longer be part of the Newport East constituency for parliamentary elections. The Commission proposed that Newport East and Newport West would be combined into a single constituency while Caldicot would become part of a Monmouthshire constituency.

TEACHER SUSPENDED
A teacher at Caldicot Comprehensive School was suspended pending a police enquiry into child protection issues. Police confirmed that there was no evidence that any alleged offences involved the school itself.

TOWN COUNCIL AWARDS
In its annual awards ceremony Caldicot town council presented plaques for achievement to several groups and individuals. Caldicot Football Club’s women’s team was recognised for being promoted two stages from South Wales division two to the Welsh Women’s League, while the men’s side won the Welsh League division two. Cherry Trees Nursing home was named best business and Dave Thomas won the award for best allotment.

OFF ROAD BIKE MENACE
Police reported that during the summer holidays they had received several reports of off road bikes being used on the highways/parks and foot paths in and around Budden Crescent, Wentwood View, Denny View, and Longfellow Road, Caldicot areas: “Not only is this a danger to the public and the person’s riding the off road bikes, they are also breaking the law by having no insurance or tax for the vehicle.” They appealed to the public to report all incidents to Gwent Police on 101 at the time of the incident, so officers if free could attend and deal.

WALK FOR ALZEIMER’S
30 people took part in a two mile memory walk from Caldicot Castle to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK. More than £3400 was raised.

HOUSE PRICE WATCH
The cheapest property advertised on www.rightmove.co.uk for sale in Caldicot at the end of September 2016 was a four bedroom semi-detached house in Newport Road at £119,000. The most expensive was a four bedroom barn conversion in the grounds of Llanthony Secunda Manor, Church Road, at £549,500.
