WORK BEGINS ON NEW STORE
Heavy machinery moved on to the school field at Caldicot Comprehensive School and began to clear ground for the construction of a new Asda store. The store is expected to open in November.
Public consultation is still to take place on pedestrian links to the village.

IMOGEN APPEAL HITS 13K
An appeal to raise £40,000 for an operation for a disabled Caldicot two-year old Imogen Ashwell-Lewis has reached £13,000.

HOUSING PLAN HELD UP
Plans to convert the Tippling Philosopher Inn and build houses in its car park were deferred by Monmouthshire County Councillor planners pending further negotiations with the developers, Enterprise Inns.

ARSONISTS STILL AT LARGE
Police reported that they had still to make an arrest in the case of an arson attack on Caldicot Comprehensive School in April. The cost of the damage, to a school office, was put at £5000.

HOUSE PRICE WATCH
The cheapest property advertised in the local press for sale in Caldicot at the end of May 2014 was a one-bedroom ‘cluster house’ in Grove Gardens at £79,950. The most expensive was a four-bedroom detached property in Clos Ystwyth at £289,950.
