SCHOOL REDEVELOPMENT PLANNED FOR 2014
Monmouthshire County Council announced that the redevelopment of Caldicot Comprehensive School would begin in 2014. The cost was estimated at £40 million, half of which would come from the Welsh Government. Some of the remaining half would come from the sale of land on the school field for the ASDA supermarket due to open in 2015, but additional funds would still need to come from MCC.
Welsh Government banding of schools for 2011/12 placed Caldicot Comprehensive School in Band 3. This marked a considerable improvement from 2010/11 when the school was based in Band 5, the lowest band.
Police were called when residents from the Pill Row area staged a protest which stopped workmen in the process of destroying a hedge. Developers were seeking to create a new entrance to the Severn Bridge Trading Estate from Pill Row but MCC Highways Department had recommended rejection on safety grounds.
