TOWN COUNCIL KEEPS TAX DOWN
Caldicot town council decided to use some of its reserves to avoid raising its share of council tax for the coming year.

SCHOOL FACES DEBT
Caldicot Comprehensive School was projected to face a significant budget deficit in the coming year.

FOOD BANK FOR HOMELESS
Branches of Curves fitness club in Caldicot and Chepstow linked up with local churches to help collect food for local homeless young people.

BURGLAR FOUND IN CUPBOARD
Karen Bussey of Oakley Close Caldicot was sentenced to 29 months imprisonment after being convicted of burglary for the third time. Bussey had been discovered in a cupboard in a house in Dewstow Road at 12.30 a.m. She pleaded guilty at the trial but had originally claimed that she thought she was in the house of a friend who had offered to do her washing.

LIFE SAVERS RECEIVE AWARDS
Three Caldicot teenagers who rescued a woman who was being attacked by her husband were presented with certificates and cheques in a ceremony at Newport Civic Centre. Tim Park, Bradley Thompson and Rhys Jones received their awards from Lady Diana Hayman-Joyce, High Sheriff of Gwent. (See August-December 2011.)

CRIME WATCH
The online “crime map” published by the Home Office showed that in January 2012 there were 66 reported incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour in Caldicot. (www.police.uk).

The cheapest property advertised in the local press for sale in Caldicot at the end of February 2012 was a one-bedroom mid-terrace house in Alianore Road at £104,950. The most expensive was Secunda Barn in Church Road at £470,000
