NEW CALLS FOR TOWN REGENERATION
At a consultation meeting held by Monmouthshire County Council on its regeneration proposals for the area, members of the public argued that much more than a new supermarket was needed to bring life into the town centre. 

SCHOOL GOES ECO FRIENDLY
A new carbon-neutral ‘learning plaza’ was soon due to open at Castle Park Primary School.  The building was constructed using bales of straw grown in local fields. It could house 60 pupils and included a range of modern technological resources.   

PARKING CHARGE PROPOSAL DROPPED
Monmouthshire County Council has dropped proposals to introduce new parking charges in a number of towns including Caldicot.

PLANNERS RECOMMEND CAFE APPROVAL
Planning officials have recommended that MCC Planning Committee approve a proposal for a new cafe in the town centre, even though 710 people signed a petition against it.

HOUSE PRICE WATCH
The cheapest property advertised in the local press for sale in Caldicot at the end of September 2011 was a two-bedroom first floor flat in Oakley Way at £79,950.  The cheapest house was a three-bedroom property in Cobb Crescent at £124,950.   The most expensive was Dewstow Lodge at £349,950.

CRIME WATCH
The online “crime map” published by the Home Office showed that in August 2011 there were 100 reported incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour in Caldicot.  (www.police.uk)
